Not one to feel sorry for himself, former IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) recently teased that his ring return would be announced imminently.

His long-term promoter met with Dubois earlier this month and warned fans to “Watch out for big fight news soon!”

However, only days after that message was circulated online, cold water was very soon poured over the hot news, as it’s now been revealed that the Brit is suffering from an injury.

Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren told Talk Sport, “The fight we wanted to make was one between him and Joseph Parker.

“We offered him [Dubois] the fight, but he is now injured. So I now doubt that he will fight again this year.

“He will likely return in January or February next year.”

Dubois was knocked out by Oleksandr Usyk in July, the Ukrainian taking just five rounds to repeat the feat from August 2023, when he stopped him the ninth.

London’s Dubois was ready to jump back into a big fight this year, but he is now sidelined and won’t be back until 2026.

Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) is fighting another Queensberry Promotions heavyweight instead – Fabio Wardley (19-0-1, 18 KOs).

The WBO and WBA Interim champions will clash at the O2 Arena on October 25, live on DAZN.

Speaking on the bout, Frank Warren feels the pair’s styles guarantee fireworks when they meet in Autumn.

“Neither Joe or Fabio wanted to wait about and protect their positions, and credit to them both for this,” Warren  praised.

“I believe this is a genuine even-money fight with a mesh of styles that I am sure will be eye-catching and highly crowd-pleasing.

“We promised to keep firing up this heavyweight division and we intend to keep all the contenders jockeying for position until the time come to fight for the ultimate prize.”
