TGL’s inaugural season came to a dramatic conclusion this week, with Los Angeles Golf Club crowned champions after a stunning comeback victory.
But even with the SoFi Cup on the line, much of the attention remained firmly on Tiger Woods.

And golf journalist Dan Rapaport believes that is exactly why the new league works.

Rapaport suggested that TGL’s biggest strength lies in its ability to keep Woods at the centre of the sport.
“Timeline filled with nothing but that man in red,” he wrote.
“TGL is genius for no other reason than it gives Tiger Woods—at this stage and with this body—a platform to play golf on television. And our phones.”
Woods may no longer compete regularly on the PGA Tour, but his presence still dominates attention whenever he appears.
The TGL format allows him to remain visible without the physical demands of traditional tournament golf, while still showcasing his shot-making ability.

That was clear again in the Finals, where Woods’ involvement generated significant interest despite the team result.

Tiger Woods reacts after Jupiter Links defeat in TGL Finals
Jupiter Links Golf Club made a strong start in the deciding match, with Woods playing a key role early on.
He helped his side race into a 2-0 lead, producing some trademark moments, including a precise tee shot at the “Stinger” hole.
However, Los Angeles Golf Club responded emphatically, going on a 9-0 run over five holes to seal a 9-2 victory and complete a clean sweep of the Finals.
After the match, Woods remained philosophical regarding the result. “They steamrolled us at the end tonight,” he said.

“It feels good to be back, but I would have liked to be back in better circumstances. That’s the way sports are. You put yourself out there. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and you deal with it.”
While the result did not go his way, the reaction to Woods’ return once again underlined Rapaport’s point.
