The NASCAR Cup Series competed in San Diego, and it was a shocking event. Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch were the favorites; however, both wrecked out after Austin Hill lost control of his No. 33 car on a restart. Instead, it was a 23XI Racing battle for the victory, resulting in a first-time winner.

Corey Hem and the No. 67 team for 23XI Racing won Sunday’s race in San Diego, earning their first victory of the 2026 Cup Series season. Heim was able to pass his 23XI Racing teammate Tyler Reddick in the closing laps. It was the 2025 NASCAR Truck Series champion’s first career Cup Series victory.

Heim has impressed in his limited Cup Series starts, but no one saw this coming on Sunday. The driver of the No. 67 car outdrove Reddick, who eventually had to pit for a flat tire, in the closing laps. This is the first of many Cup Series wins for Heim, and this was an extremely impressive performance.
