Concerning PGA News Has Fans Talking About Scottie Scheffler Ahead of BMW Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The second PGA Tour FedExCup playoff tournament begins Thursday, with the BMW Championship set to take place in Baltimore, Maryland, featuring the top 50 golfers on the tour.
Leading the field is world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is coming off an impressive performance at the St. Jude Championship, finishing tied for third at 15-under par with Tommy Fleetwood—just behind runner-up J.J. Spaun and winner Justin Rose.
However, Scheffler will once again be without his lead caddie, Ted Scott, a key presence for him on every hole. Scott missed last week’s tournament to tend to family matters, with Brad Payne stepping in, and will remain absent again this week—sparking concern among PGA fans.
In his place this time around, Scheffler will team up with Michael Cromie, the regular caddie for Chris Kirk. Cromie and Scheffler were spotted getting in some practice on Tuesday. Kirk ranked 51st in total points after the St. Jude, narrowly missing the cut to compete over the next two weeks.

Someone else added, “Will not having Ted affect his game? Probably not”
Another fan wrote, “Praying for @jtedscott to navigate whatever is going on and get back out there soon.”
“At least he had an actual caddie as a fill in this time,” one more fan commented.

Ted Scott has served as Scottie Scheffler’s main caddie since late 2021, and while Scheffler’s dominance in recent years can’t be credited solely to Scott, their relationship is certainly among the strongest on the PGA Tour.
While having a replacement caddie may not directly hinder Scheffler’s performance, it’s still a notable absence with just two tournaments left before he shifts focus to representing the United States in the Ryder Cup.
