Commanders roster rankings: Tress Way among those just outside top 10

Our Commanders roster rankings are now complete. The top 10 has been revealed over the past few weeks, starting with Leo Chenal at No. 10 and ending with Laremy Tunsil in the top spot.

The 10 talents you see below weren’t the only ones receiving votes from the panel.

Several others were close to inclusion, and we thought they deserved a shout out and warranted some discussion about their value to the Commanders and whether they should’ve been ranked higher.

The Commanders punter received points from every panelist – we did a top 13 to account for some variance – and it’s clear that respect for Tress Way is sky high. That’s warranted for the three-time Pro Bowl selection, with his latest coming in 2025.

Way was sixth in net yards per punt last season and second with 51.8% of his punts placed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. That’s a real weapon for a team to have, someone who can set the defense up well. Also, the fact he’s doing all this at 35 is even more impressive as a pillar of consistency for Washington’s special-teams units.

RT Josh Conerly

The first-round NFL draft pick had a rough start to his rookie season in 2025. While he faced some tough competition. That sent his stats into a permanently unwelcome spot, with his 9.9% allowed pressure rate, per NFL Next Gen Stats, in the 10 worst among NFL tackles.

The eye test shows improvement as the year went on, and there’s real belief that the Oregon product has improved immensely this offseason. There’s no doubting Conerly’s talent or drive. His development, however, must continue.

“He’s gonna be a dawg, I see myself…,” Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil said about Conerly, via NBC 4 in Washington. “He (comes) to me every day — ‘what advice you got for me today?’”

K’Lavon Chaisson is coming off an outstanding year with the New England Patriots, where he had 7.5 sacks in the regular season and three more in the playoffs. He had a 14.2% quarterback pressure rate and 52 total pressures, excellent numbers for someone who was given more defensive opportunities than at any point in his career.

He parlayed that into a one-year, $11-million deal with the Commanders. He’s only 26, so there’s an expectation that he could just be hitting his prime. Those are all pluses for the Commanders, who spent a ton helping their pass rush.

DT Javon Kinlaw: Super talented interior lineman who hasn’t had that breakout year.

LB Frankie Luvu: Not the player he once was but can still generate game-changing plays.
