BELLVILLE — The race for the 2025 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference boys golf championship came down to the wire.
And it was River Valley coming away with the first championship of the fall season. The Vikings secured the victory on Sept. 17 at Deer Ridge Golf Course in Bellville with a team score of 340 to take the 14 points up for grabs in the final MOAC shootout of the season. The Vikings finished the season with 58 total points.
Clear Fork shot a 346 in the final round, led by Landon Ball with a 45-39-84 while Bryer Ousley added a 47-40-87, Clinton Stallard had a 45-42-87, Kaiden Dettmer added a 46-42-88, Beckett Slaughter had a 46-43-89 and Xander Cyphers rounded out the scores with a 49-45-94. The Colts finished second in the final shootout of the season to take 12 points and finish with 53 total points, just five back of River Valley.
Galion finished in third with 43 total points while Pleasant took fourth with 42, Shelby was fifth with 24, Ontario was sixth with 21 and Highland finished in seventh with 11. Marion Harding did not record team scores.
In the final shootout, Shelby was led by Grady Schroeder with a 41-41-82 while Thomas Lenahan added a 45-39-84, Kayne Cooke (47-47) and Jackson Curry (50-44) shot matching 94s, Gavin Lamb carded a 47-48-95 and Braden Palm rounded out the scores with a 51-47-98.
Ontario was led by Jaxson Tinkham with a 40-42-82 while Colton Blevins added a 43-45-88, Kolbe Ramion added a 43-49-92, Michael Brown had a 49-48-97, Miles Doehla carded a 50-48-98 and Mike McClenathan rounded out the scores with a 61-50-111.
Teams begin sectional play on Thursday at Woussickett Golf Course in the Division II tournament.
