The Tehachapi High girls golf team finished second in Wednesday’s CIF Central Section Division III Tournament played at Visalia’s par-73 Valley Oaks Golf Course.
Makenna Paxton led the Warriors with an 88. She and Sierra Pacific’s Carrie Capello were tied for lowest score, but Capello broke the tie by winning on a third playoff hole.
Santa Maria-St. Joseph won the team title with a score of 486, led by Lauren Fulton’s 93. Tehachapi finished 28 strokes back. After Paxton, the rest of Tehachapi’s scorers were Tailey Jelleschitz (102), Kayden Spykerman (102), Kassie Stilson (110), Cassandra Arias (112) and Hayden Avila (121).
Other local teams competing in the Division III tournament were Highland (578), Bakersfield Christian (584) and Taft (587). BCHS’ Emma Braun was third individually with a 90.
On Tuesday, the Area and Division II championship took place, also at Valley Oaks GC, and Santa Ynez won the team title with a 483 score. Atascadero was second (489).
Wasco, the lone team in the D2 tournament, shot 532 to finish sixth. The Tigers’ lowest scorer was Abby Salazar with a 92.
Local individual golfers not playing with their teams were Garces’ Malia Giumarra (89), Centennial’s Sofia Herron (96) and Presley Anderson (103).
