Federico Chiesa’s recent first Premier League start for Liverpool is unlikely to alter his trajectory at Anfield, with a departure still the most likely outcome after a season in which he has struggled for regular playing time.

The 27-year-old was named in Arne Slot’s starting XI for the Reds’ final league outing, but the decision to hand him a chance in a match of little significance—given that Liverpool had already secured the Premier League title—speaks volumes about the club’s overall assessment of the player.

Chiesa exit: loan with Liverpool covering wages could lead to Serie A move

Slot deployed Chiesa as a centre-forward, a role in which Liverpool already have, and are expected to add, alternative options—further suggesting that the Italian’s status at the club is unlikely to change next season.

For this reason, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that a return to Serie A is a realistic possibility for the former Juventus star this summer, with Milan and Roma potentially interested in resuming talks after having made initial contact in January.

While Chiesa’s €7.5 million salary could pose a hurdle, a loan deal in which Liverpool cover part of his wages may provide a workable solution for clubs looking to sign a player eager to relaunch his career.
