Charlton Athletic have signed Alex Gilbert on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, who is a former Republic of Ireland youth international, is the first player to move to the Addicks during the winter transfer window.
Gilbert moved to Boro in the summer of 2023 from Brentford but has found his chances at the Riverside Stadium limited.
He has made just two Championship starts and the last of his two goals for Boro came on New Year’s Day in the 1-0 win at Hull City.
“We’ve been looking to add more quality in the final third and Alex provides that,” Charlton boss Nathan Jones told the club website.
“He comes with decent pedigree having played in a very good Championship side this season, who trust us to further his development.
“We don’t really like taking players on loan, but when an opportunity comes up to add real quality, like this, we have to take it.”
