The Charlotte Checkers have signed forward Jesse Puljujarvi to a professional try-out, it was announced Monday.

Puljujarvi, who mutually terminated his contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins over the weekend, has spent the majority of the season in the NHL. Through 26 games with the Penguins, he scored three goals and added six assists for nine points while putting up three points in four games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft, Puljujarvi has appeared in 382 career NHL regular season games with the Oilers, Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes. In that span, he has collected 57 goals and 70 assists for 127 points.

Although Puljujarvi has had his ups and downs throughout his NHL career, he has proven to be a reliable player in the right circumstances. If he can produce with the Checkers, he might get another look in the NHL soon enough.
