Columbus Blue Jackets fans mourn Johnny Gaudreau as season starts
Fans speculated on the impact on the Blue Jackets on-ice performance as the season started, too.
The Columbus chapter of Hockey Players in Business is hosting its third annual charity golf outing on Sept. 29, giving all proceeds to the John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation for the first time.
144 golfers are expected to participate, according to a press release, the biggest outing the nonprofit has hosted.
HPIB, which promotes networking and employment among hockey players as well as promoting the spor, sees the outing as “central Ohio’s opportunity to give back to the Gaudreau family while honoring and celebrating John and Matthew.”

Additionally, there are a variety of sponsorship options available to select for companies to support the outing and the Gaudreau foundation. Raffle or auction items will also be accepted.

What happened to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau?
On Aug. 20, 2024, Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were killed by an alleged drunk driver while cycling in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. While the case is still ongoing, Sean Higgins, 44 is being charged with six criminal counts, including vehicular manslaughter.
