Edge rusher Khalil Mack recently announced that he would play his 13th season in the NFL. Now, we know it will be with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chargers have reportedly reached a deal to re-sign Mack to a one-year, $18 million extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal will prevent Mack from hitting free agency.

Mack has spent the last four seasons with the Chargers. The 35-year-old finished the year with 32 tackles, 5.5 sacks and four forced fumbles, despite missing four games with an elbow injury. Mack has 113 career sacks, which ranks seventh among active players.
Before the nine-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro played for the Chargers, he played for the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders.

Mack should continue to be a centerpiece on the Chargers’ defense under new defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary. Last season, the Chargers ranked fifth in yards allowed per game.

Now that the Chargers have re-signed Mack and Teair Tart, they can turn their attention to outside linebacker Odafe Oweh. Oweh was acquired by the Chargers from the Baltimore Ravens before the trade deadline and finished the year with 28 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Oweh is set to hit free agency this coming week.
On the offensive side, the Chargers signed center Tyler Biadasz to a three-year, $30 million extension to replace Bradley Bozeman, who retired.
Last year, the Chargers finished 11-6 and lost in the wild-card round for the second straight season. The last time the Chargers won a playoff game was in 2018.
