Real Madrid will likely be without Kylian Mbappé for Wednesday’s first leg of its Champions League Round of 16 tie with Manchester City. The French international, who is the competition’s leading scorer with 13 goals, has not played since Feb. 21 due to a knee issue.
Mbappé did not train on Tuesday and Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa did not have an update on a timeframe for a return.
“Mbappé is much better, but we have to take it one day at a time,” Arbeloa said. He’s come back feeling great. And we’ll take it one step at a time.”
Injuries are an issue for the La Liga side with Jude Bellingham, Álvaro Carreras, Éder Militão, Rodrygo, Dani Ceballos, and David Alaba also out Wednesday.

The other big match on Wednesday is PSG against Chelsea, a rematch of last summer’s Club World Cup final. The Blues won that meeting and were successful enough during the League Phase of this competition to go directly to the Round of 16. The French side, meanwhile, has to dispatch Ligue 1 rivals Monaco 5-4 on aggregate.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has had success against the reigning Champions League winners. While managing Strasbourg, he won, lost and drew against PSG over two seasons.
Elsewhere, Arsenal will visit USMNT’s Malik Tillman and Bayer Leverkusen and Champions League Cinderellas Bodø/Glimt host Sporting.
