MITCHELL — Against a cold and rainy backdrop, Chamberlain’s Trey Speer duplicated her success at Lakeview Golf Course on Tuesday.
Speer claimed the medalist honors following a round of 84 at the Region 3A girls golf tournament for her second victory this season at Lakeview, following a win at the Parkston Invitational on April 25.
However, the Cubs placed second in the team standings to Winner, which posted a 398 team score to Chamberlain’s 399. Along with third-place finishing Mount Vernon/Plankinton (446), all three teams qualified for the Class A state girls golf tournament in addition to the top-13 finishers individually.

Tied with Winner’s Gracie Root for the individual lead after 15 holes of play, Speer closed out her round with three consecutive pars, finishing with nine in total. Root bogeyed two of her final three holes, finishing in second place with a round of 86.
Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Abby Davis claimed third place after shooting an 89 with two birdies on her card. Winner’s Ava Craven (98) and Chamberlain’s Natalie Nelson (99) completed the top five.

Other individual area qualifiers include Winner’s Payton Sargent (seventh, 105), Chamberlain’s Natalie Kelsey (eighth, 107), Winner’s Reese Halligan (ninth, 109), Chamberlain’s Jayde McQuirk (10th, 109), Winner’s Claire Pravecek (12th, 116) and MVP’s Aspen Bosma (13th, 116).
While the Region 3A golf tournament was contested on its scheduled date, wet weather across the state saw several region tournaments postponed to later in the week, notably the Region 4B golf tournament at Lakeview Golf Course from Monday, May 19, to Wednesday, May 21.
The Class A girls state golf tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 2, at the Madison Golf and Country Club.
