The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Brendan Lemieux on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the AHL, the team announced Wednesday.

Drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft, Lemieux did not appear in a game with the Hurricanes to start the season.

In 2023-24, while playing for Carolina, Lemieux scored three goals and added two assists for five points in 32 regular season games.

Throughout his pro career, Lemieux has played for the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers and the Hurricanes. In 307 career NHL regular season games, he has collected 74 points.

If he clears waivers, this will be the first time Lemieux sees AHL action since the 2017-18 season. Although his numbers have fallen off a bit in recent years, if he can get going with the Chicago Wolves, he could play himself into a call-up.
