The world number two has now shared what happened the last time he played golf against the three-time Grand Slam champion.

Carlos Alcaraz claims he beat Andy Murray the last time they played golf

Appearing as a guest on the ‘Iguales‘ podcast, Alcaraz had this to say about his golfing rivalry with Murray.

“No, no, I have to be honest. I could say we’re even…” said Alcaraz.

“I beat him last time!

“Andy’s a b—– by the way! He really likes to mess with you!

“No, he’s very good. If we play a straightforward 1 vs 1, I get hammered.

“What happened was when we were in London, we were playing in pairs.

“I was with Juanki [Juan Carlos Ferrero], who plays all the time, and Andy was paired with a pro he knows from the course. We were playing what you call better and worst ball, so once they beat us, and once we beat them.

“So I mentioned it in my next interview, and then he got serious, and the next time we played, he barely spoke to me.

“He had the last laugh and it’s 2-1 now!

“But we weren’t competing on an equal footing, because I’m not at that level yet.

“I’ll get there!

“And I’ll beat him, but I can’t yet.”

Carlos Alcaraz explains why he loves golf so much

The Spaniard is a keen golfer, and now explains why he loves the sport.

“First of all, it’s not physically demanding. It’s very low risk,” said Alcaraz.

“Then there’s the environment surrounding golf. For me, that’s the main thing, how beautiful it is.

“You’re surrounded by nature, and in a way, no one bothers you.

“You’re focused on yourself.

“I go with friends and have a great time. Then, there are tennis players who are very competitive, maybe not all of them, but the vast majority are super competitive, and golf makes you compete mainly against yourself, against the course, and then against the people you are playing with.

“But the main focus is on yourself and that’s great, because you don’t need anyone else, unlike, say tennis or padel, where you have to find someone roughly at your level to have a good time.

“You can go play golf alone and have a blast because you’re in that competitive mode the whole time against yourself. Like, ‘I’m going to see if I can beat my best score’, or ‘I’m going to see if I can lower my handicap’, so it’s like a snowball, and as you see yourself improving, you get more and more hooked. It’s amazing.”
