It’s the surface of his home country. It’s the surface he grew up practicing.
Clay is the surface synonymous with Carlos Alcaraz.
The Spaniard has won 10 clay tournaments at just 22 years old. This includes Masters 1000’s in Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome, and of course, last year’s French Open title.
Alcaraz is on a 17-match winning streak at Roland-Garros after defeating Fabian Marozsan in four sets on Wednesday.
He also joined some elite company, becoming one of the fastest players in tennis history to reach 20 wins at the French Open.
Alcaraz achieved the feat in just 23 matches. He joins a storied list including his own coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Jim Courier, and of course, Rafael Nadal. The kid from Mallorca started his career at Roland-Garros with 31 straight victories and four French Open titles.

Alcaraz is 98-19 on clay all-time, the third-highest winning percentage (83.8%) in history. Only Nadal (90.5%) and Bjorn Borg (86.1%) are above him.
Carlitos is on a trajectory to become one of the greatest athletes to grace clay. His ability to slide on the brown surface is unparalleled by any active tennis player.
Rafael Nadal has 14 French Open titles. Could Alcaraz challenge that mark?
It’s a crazy question to ask so early in his career, but the Spaniard has done everything so far to prove he could make history.
