Oliver Kapanen took a big step forward with his development last season with the Montreal Canadiens. In 82 games last season with the Original Six club, he posted 22 goals, 15 assists, and 37 points
When noting that this was Kapanen’s first full NHL season, there is no question that he had a solid year for the Habs. Yet, it would not be surprising if he ends up having an even better year for Montreal in 2026-27.

Now that Kapanen is heading into next season more adjusted to the NHL level, the possibility of him improving his all-around game should not be ruled out.
Kapanen has already shown that he can produce solid secondary offensive production in the NHL, and it would be big for the Canadiens if he improved upon it further in 2026-27. If he can produce more offense while also strengthening his two-way game, he would undoubtedly make Montreal’s forward group better.
At just 23 years old and 100 NHL games into his career, Kapanen has very likely not reached his ceiling yet. It will be interesting to see what kind of season he puts together for the Canadiens in 2026-27 from here, but it is hard not to feel optimistic about his future with the team.
