The Montreal Canadiens could use another skilled winger to solidify their top nine before the start of the season. At this point of the off-season, there are not too many notable free agent options left. Because of this, if the Canadiens hope to bring in another winger, their best bet would be the trade market.
One trade candidate who would make sense for the Canadiens to make a push for is Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk.

With the Canucks being in a full-on rebuild, DeBrusk has been a popular name in the rumor mill since leading up to the 2026 NHL trade deadline. With the Canadiens needing help on offense, the 2015 first-round pick would be worth taking a flier on.
If the Canadiens signed DeBrusk, he could slot very nicely at their second line left wing spot. He would also provide Montreal with another scorer to work with on their power play if brought in.
In 81 games last season for the Canucks, DeBrusk scored a team-high 23 goals and recorded 42 points. This was after he scored a career-high 28 goals and posted 48 points in 82 games with Vancouver in 2024-25. He has also scored at least 23 goals in four out of his last five seasons. With numbers like these, he would certainly give Montreal’s roster a boost.
DeBrusk would be a long-term pickup for the Canadiens, too, as he has a reasonable $5.5 million cap hit through the 2030-31 season.
