Cameron Young Reveals How His Father David Had a Major Role Behind His Golfing originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The first PGA Tour win is well within Cameron Young’s grasp this week at Sedgefield CC. He currently leads the field with a five-shot advantage over Nico Echavarria in the second.
The 28-year-old golfer has always father David backing him up. In fact, Young revealed that his father was the reason behind his golfing performance.
David Young is actually the head professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club and is also an accomplished player. So from an early age, Young got exposed to events and tournaments that honed his skill.
“It’s because of the PGA that he has had the job he had for the last many years,” Cameron revealed to PGA. “Without that at Sleepy Hollow, I don’t start playing at four years old or earlier. I don’t have the access that I did growing up. I started playing in PGA junior events when I was nine, eight, something like that.”
David Young Has Always Been Proud of His Son
David Young and his son as a duo just clicks, according to Young. The father has caddied for his son in multiple events, including just a month ago at the Travelers Championship when Young’s usual partner Kyle Sterbinsky got ill.
“It’s a really, really easy relationship for us,” David Young said. “It’s not real tricky. First and foremost, he’s my son, and most of the time is spent in that relationship. Every once in a while, we’ll do a little work if he needs to.”

In terms of pride, David Young rates it 12 out of 10.
“How proud I am, I really don’t know how to answer that,” the father said. “I’m not a man with the right words, I guess. I’m not a writer. I’m much more of a numbers guy, a math guy. So maybe 12 out of 10?”
This was back in 2022. With almost three years under it, Young has developed into an experienced golfer and is very close to his first win. For sure, his father’s pride metric has increased manyfold as of Sunday.
