Caitlin Clark’s Blunt U.S. Open Question Draws Major Reaction originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark ignited the WNBA world on Saturday with her return to the floor after an injury, scoring 32 points with nine assists and eight rebounds in a 102-88 win over the New York Liberty.
A day later, she ignited the golf world with an astute observation and pertinent question about what was taking place at the U.S Open at Oakmont Country Club.
“Is Oakmont even fun to play?” Clark asked on her X account. “I’d shoot 130 easily.”
On Saturday, there were only three players in the field under par for the day, and the winning score is expecting to be around even par, if not over par. The deep rough around the course and difficult green conditions have made it a tough test for the best golfer in the world. Even PGA star Rory McIlroy admitted on Saturday that he was indifferent about making the cut on Friday afternoon, uncertain about whether or not he wanted to play two more rounds over the weekend.
So Clark’s question was very fair to ask, seeing as some of the best players in the nation didn’t appear to be enjoying their time at the historic country club.
Here’s how fans, and some professional golfers reacted to the question.
Promise you it’s not “fun”

“Absolutely not,” one fan commented. “You can simply just tell from the golfers body language they hate it.”
“on the front 9 maybe,” another fan joked.
“lol I ain’t ever seen a course make these guys look like this before,” another fan added.
We’ve seen Clark get out on the links and play some golf during the offseason over the past year, so we know that he is a fan of the game. However, it seems pretty apparent that she has no interest in playing at Oakmont Country Club if it’s in U.S. Open conditions, and who could blame her?
