Weiss came through TSG Hoffenheim and SV Sandhausen academies before joining Bundesliga.2 side Karlsruher in 2019.

He progressed through its youth ranks and went on to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2024-25 campaign.

The Germany U20 international made 34 appearances last term, keeping eight clean sheets to help his team to an eighth-place finish.

Weiss has now made a big step up in his career by landing a move to Burnley, who earned automatic promotion to the Premier League last season.

Scott Parker’s side will view him as a back-up for Trafford should he get injured.

But the addition of a new goalkeeper hints they are making preparations in case the former Manchester City man leaves the club this summer.

Newcastle failed to sign Trafford last summer, but they haven’t given up their pursuit for the 22-year-old.

Newcastle already have Nick Pope, but he is now on the wrong side of 30 and manager Eddie Howe wants another goalkeeper to compete with him for a starting spot.
