Bryson DeChambeau has issued his reaction after beating Richard T. Lee in a dramatic playoff in Singapore to secure his first victory on LIV Golf this season.

Both DeChambeau and Lee began the final round in Singapore one shot off the lead. It was the wild card who took the clubhouse lead with a birdie on his last hole.

Unfortunately, his next visit to the 18th green would be an agonising one.

Bryson DeChambeau issues his verdict after winning LIV Golf Singapore

DeChambeau ensured that there would be a playoff with a four of his own on the last. However, it appeared that the two-time US Open champion had thrown his chances of victory away when he found the water off the tee when they returned to the 18th.

Lee took a cautious approach after seeing DeChambeau’s ball go in the lake. Nevertheless, he still left himself with a genuine birdie opportunity.

The Crushers captain managed to put some pressure on. He hit a thunderous three wood to the right of the green and got up and down for par.

Sadly, the Canadian three-putted to leave a victorious DeChambeau in shock.

He spoke to TNT Sports shortly after his win was confirmed.

“That [drive] was crazy. That water was pumping onto the golf ball. I tried to hit a draw down there and the wind and the water just made it go way off line. I couldn’t do anything about that. It was pretty close, but it wasn’t struck as good as it could have been, because it’s wet and just swinging in the rain. It’s difficult, brutal, brutal. Made a mistake there, but was able to gather myself and hit a beautiful three wood,” he said.

“It’s so funny, the emotions. I see Richard over there, he’s laying up, he’s going to have a birdie chance. I’m just like I’ve just got to go for this. I blocked it a little bit, and I knew it would be okay in the bunker or just over. I’d be able to get up and down. It’s soft enough conditions now with the rain. I really attacked it. I feel so bad for Richard. I wanted to go play another hole in some fairer conditions for both of us.

“Sport is brutal. You never want to see something like that, two-and-a-half footer, it’s pretty simple. He’s such a good player, putter, and we’re so lucky to have him on LIV Golf. He’ll be battling it out quite a bit more, but fortunate to get the win today.

“It was a day of resilience. My caddie just told me, ‘keep looking forward, look ahead’. And we focused only on what we could do moving forward. I’m hitting it a lot better now, I just want to keep that form for next week and then, come major season.”

An extremely significant win for both DeChambeau and LIV Golf

It felt like a hugely important win for DeChambeau who had got off to a slow start on LIV.

He did finish third in Adelaide. However, he began the final round five shots clear of eventual winner Anthony Kim, so it was alarming that he ended up six shots back.

DeChambeau is LIV Golf’s biggest star, particularly when it comes to attracting mainstream attention. So it was significant for both DeChambeau and LIV that he came out on top in Singapore.

As he noted, The Masters is just around the corner. And DeChambeau definitely has some unfinished business at Augusta National to attend to.
