Bryson DeChambeau News Emerges This Weekend originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Bryson DeChambeau quietly put together one of the best final rounds at Royal Portrush, shooting a 64 on Sunday to finish tied for 10th at the Open Championship. After opening with a 78, DeChambeau bounced back with rounds of 65, 68 and 64, his second career top-10 finish at The Open. While Scottie Scheffler dominated the headlines, Bryson’s comeback caught plenty of attention, especially given his links golf struggles.
The bigger news involving him came off the course. U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley confirmed to Sports Illustrated that DeChambeau will be on the team at Bethpage Black in September, even if he isn’t one of the top six automatic qualifiers.
“Bryson is going to be a very important piece to us winning the Ryder Cup,” Bradley said via text. “He brings energy, passion, but most importantly, he’s one of the best players on the planet.”

Because DeChambeau plays in the LIV Golf League, he’s no longer able to earn Ryder Cup points each week. Despite this, he is fifth in the standings. However, PGA Tour players have four more events to earn points. That means DeChambeau could fall out of the top six. Now we know he’s getting a captain’s pick if he does.
Bradley, who might become the first U.S. playing captain since 1963, left notes and photos for potential Ryder Cup players at Portrush. One image showed Justin Leonard’s legendary 1999 putt at Brookline.
Bryson DeChambeau said he hopes to bring a “tsunami” of a crowd to Bethpage to cheer on Team USA at the Ryder Cup.
He also shared that Keegan Bradley left a message in players’ lockers.

Though he hasn’t added a major this year, DeChambeau finished tied for fifth at the Masters and as the runner-up at the PGA Championship. Add an LIV win in Korea and consistent top-10s on that tour, and it’s clear why Bradley is all-in on Bryson for Bethpage.
