Bryson DeChambeau is sporting a new chinstrap beard. He forwent his clean-shaven appearance last month after a disappointing finish at The Masters. This weekend, the polarizing golfer competes in the LIV Golf Korea tournament at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea.

LIV Golf events have a different energy than “The Grandaddy of Them All.” DeChambeau offered some insight into how the rowdiness of LIV Golf events primes him for better performances at the major championships.

“I feel like this is sometimes a little bit more amplified in certain scenarios. It’s very similar, which makes me comfortable, actually, in major championship settings. So, you know, I think every event is a little more elevated in regards to the noise level and the hustle-bustleness,” in regards to LIV events atmosphere.

“And so when you go play a major, like even The Masters or US Open, there’s going to be some rowdiness out there. They want to see some competitiveness and some fire. They’re going to be cheering and rooting you on. So I feel like it’s a very good prep for me going into these majors.”

DeChambeau was two shots behind Rory McIlroy in the third round of The Masters and undoubtedly had the crowd roaring in excitement as he dapped up fans and celebrated being in the final pairing on Sunday to what should have been a spectacular duel between the two golfers.

He started strong in the final round, briefly taking the lead after a birdie on the second hole and McIlroy’s double bogey on the first. His conservative iron play on the third hole led to an overwhelming momentum shift, and he never recovered. An errant shot on the 17th was the final nail in the coffin, and he finished the round 3-over par, ending the tournament at 7-under. McIlroy went on to win his first green jacket.

Some fans were not a fan of his new look.

While others took more issue with the substance of his comments.

Each tour has its strengths; while LIV Golf events offer a modernized format and higher payout, the PGA Tour emphasizes its traditional competitive depth and staying power through four rounds instead of three.
