The International Falls varsity golf teams finished first Wednesday when they hosted the 18-hole Falls Invitational at the Falls Country Club.
Rainfall late in the morning temporarily halted play, but the golfers were able to get back on the course after the rain stopped to finish their rounds.
The Bronco boys had the top team score of 309, followed by Virginia (327), Hibbing (328), North Woods (336), Fort Frances (378) and Ely/Northeast Range (416).
Falls junior Eric Cann finished first individually with a 72 after carding a 34 on the front nine and a 38 on the final nine holes.
He finished a stroke ahead of Virginia’s Anthony Ahrens, who recorded a 35 on the front nine and tied Cann on the back nine to end up with a 73.
Broncos sophomore Brady Wright placed third with a 74 (38-36).
Falls’ other two golfers whose scores counted toward the team total included freshman Josh Cann at 79 (38-41) and sophomore Josh Milette at 84 (41-43).
Also golfing for the Bronco boys varsity were sophomores Brock O’Loughlin at 87 (47-40) and Austin Van Heel with a 91 (47-44).
In the girls competition, the Falls finished first at 360, followed by Hibbing (370), North Woods (421), Eveleth-Gilbert (433) and Virginia (551).
Hibbing’s Vanessa Yeager placed first individually with an 81.
The Broncos had three girls golfers finish in the top five led by eighth-grader Kenzie Wenberg placing runner-up with an 83. Sophomore Olivia Besch finished fourth with a 90, while senior Jenna Anderson came in fifth at 91.
Falls eighth-grader Maggie Roeder ended up with a 96 as the final player whose score counted toward the team total. Also golfing for the Bronco girls varsity were Kaitlin Stallard at 97 and Morgan Rasmussen with a 102.
