Bristol City have signed forward Delano Burgzorg from Championship rivals Middlesbrough on a loan deal until the end of the season

The Dutchman has played 71 games for Boro, including 25 in the league this season, scoring eight goals in his season and a half with the club.

The 27-year-old, who has also spent time on loan with Huddersfield Town, signed a four-year contract on Teesside in 2024 when he joined from Bundesliga club Mainz.

The Robins have been linked with a move for Burgzorg throughout the January transfer window.

“We did it, he’s here and now we start the time to integrate him very quick in our football style,” Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber told BBC Radio Bristol.

“We are happy that we can finalise the long story in a successful way.

“It was the clear goal that we have to make our roster bigger and stronger especially in the striker position and he is a player that can give us a really good dynamic, physical power and we have to develop him.”

Burgzorg is City’s third January signing after Sam Morsy and fellow midfielder George Earthy, the latter returning for a second loan spell from West Ham.

Struber has been keen to add to the Robins’ attacking line-up for some time, to provide support for Emil Riis who signed last summer.

Following initial interest from City at the beginning of the transfer window, Burgzorg’s move to Ashton Gate looked like it had fallen through last week.

Suggesting his side had missed out on signing Burgzorg, Struber told BBC Radio Bristol: “We were super close, everything was negotiated in a really good way but we get the stop signs from Middlesbrough.”

But, after selling forward Anis Mehmeti to Ipswich Town on Friday, City decided to re-open talks with Boro and have finally landed their long-established target with four days of the window remaining.

Struber said he was “relieved” to get the deal completed and stressed the aim was to continue to develop Burgzorg, who has scored just twice for Boro this campaign.

“This is now the moment where we have to bring out the best of Delano and help him and support him [so] that he [at] Bristol City [is] not just a dynamic, physical striker but also he’s a striker who scores goals.”

Bristol City continue their Championship campaign with a home fixture against Derby County on Friday (20:00 GMT).
