But this late in the transfer window? Rogers was almost certainly available this summer as Aston Villa battled PSR without Champions League football but this feels like leaving it late.
That would open up a potential spot in Liverpool’s squad, not just for an attacking midfielder but for a homegrown star. Rogers certainly ticks both boxes.
And the idea of Aston Villa selling their star suddenly looks more likely.
The Athletic reports that Aston Villa are now trying to strike a late deal for Lucas Paqueta. That’s a difficult one, of course, as West Ham United will not want to lose the Brazilian.
In fact, it feels as though they’re destined for relegation if they do sell Paqueta. For that reason, we’re not sure how likely their pursuit is.
But Villa even trying to make this one happen suggests something is up. A late move that would almost certainly be above market value for an attacking midfielder?
