Oct. 9—ROCHESTER — It’s finally tee time at Blue Lagoon Mini Golf as Rochester’s only outdoor putt-putt course opens for golfers on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

While delays derailed the original plan for building and opening the new 18-hole outdoor course during the summer months, owner Missy Emerich opened the course for social media followers on Tuesday night. Blue Lagoon is open to the public on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for some October golfing.

As long as the warm Fall weather holds, the course is ready for players at 6255 34th Ave. NW near the Roca Climbing center and Mercy Hill Church.

Blue Lagoon is a rare local addition to the options for family-friendly outdoor entertainment venues. It will also feature a cornhole bean bag area and a patio. The 600-square-foot clubhouse sells drinks and ice cream.

Rochester has only one nine-hole mini-golf course open during the warm months at Skyline Raceway, 2248 40th St. SW, on the other side of the city. The nearest 18-hole outdoor mini-golf course is located at Lark Toys in Kellogg, Minnesota.

Emerich credits the area firms of Kramer Contracting, Family Tree Landscape, CRW Architecture + Design Group and Widseth as completing the course quickly after the project got a very late start.

In May, Emerich explained why she and her family decided to open a new seasonal mini-golf course in Rochester.

“We’ve raised our family here and we know how important it is to find fun activities to do with kids and family and we kind of felt Rochester was lacking a little bit in that department,” she said.
