Before Brandon Aiyuk can get released from the San Francisco 49ers, he must apply for reinstatement due to being on the reserve/left squad list.
And he still has to do that.
On NFL Live, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Aiyuk has not yet applied for reinstatement.

“He is on the left squad list for the 49ers still,” Fowler said on NFL Live. “To get off that list, he has to apply to [NFL] Commissioner Roger Goodell; he has to file paperwork. I’m told that hasn’t happened.”
In order for Aiyuk to go to the Washington Commanders (like he’s been saying he wants on social media), Aiyuk would need his probable release from the 49ers. That doesn’t happen until he fills out that paperwork.
“Teams I talk to say that he’s essentially untradable right now,” Fowler continued. “And I’ve talked to some people around the league who think that when he gets cut, if he gets cut, he might have to sign a vet minimum deal somewhere because of how all of this has gone.”
As we’ve said before, if Aiyuk could have been traded, he would have been. Long, long ago. That hasn’t happened. At this point, the path to the Commanders requires his release. To get released, he needs to do some homework. Whenever that happens.

We can say the 49ers are holding him hostage all he wants, but Aiyuk doesn’t seem to be doing what’s required of a player in the National Football League to make his case that the 49ers are doing him wrong. It would be another story if he applied for reinstatement and the 49ers were forced to cut him.
Multiple people with connections to the league have been siding against Aiyuk both for his recent antics and how he’s handled the entire situation.
Meanwhile, we end this with Aiyuk’s latest Instagram shenanigans. Something best described by Fowler as “lighting money on fire.”
