Brad Keselowski is one of the senior drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series garage. In addition, he’s a co-owner at RFK Racing and a member of NASCAR’s Owner Advisory Council that includes Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks and Joe Gibbs Racing co-owner Heather Gibbs and is tasked with helping NASCAR plan what the sport’s going to look like in the future — three to five years down the road. Translation: the 2012 champion’s voice matters.

On Friday at North Wilkesboro, the 41-year-old shared that voice with reporters when he was asked about the future of the All-Star Race at the 0.625-mile speedway located in the North Carolina Foothills.

“I probably would do something different with the All-Star Race,” Keselowski said. “I think this is — I personally would like to see the All-Star Race either return to Charlotte or go to a Nashville Fairground or something to that effect and see this become a regular-season race. But you know, that’s not my decision.”

It’s not his decision, but his seniority and role on the advisory council have influence.

If North Wilkesboro did become an official points-paying race, it would be an incredible comeback story for a track that just five years ago was overgrown with weeds and showed no signs of racing life. Since then, the facility has been refurbished, the track repaved and it will be hosting its third All-Star Race on Sunday.

Coverage of the All-Star Open begins at 5:30 p.m. ET on FS1 and will be followed by the All-Star Race at 8 p.m..
