MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — Brayden Schenn was surprised to see his name dropped, that it was out there.
The St. Louis Blues captain, a veteran of the NHL who first broke into the league in 2009, knows the drill. The 33-year-old understands it’s that time of the year when names get bandied around in rumors with the trade deadline fast approaching on March 7.
He was just surprised to hear his name, first mentioned by TSN’s Darren Dreger:
“I don’t think I need to get into rumors or whatever,” Schenn said Tuesday. “I’m not in those talks behind closed doors. What I do know, I love St. Louis, I love being here. I’ve always said it’s the best thing for me. I obviously know there’s a business side of it. At the end of the day, there’s no sense in me talking about speculation or what could happen because at the end of the day, I’m a St. Louis Blue and I love it here.”
Schenn has been a pillar with the Blues since he arrived in the summer of 2017 in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, of course winning a Stanley Cup here in 2019. And after a bit of a slow start to the season this year, Schenn has been one of the more consistent players with 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 56 games.
Schenn has three years remaining on his eight-year, $52 million contract he signed Oct. 4, 2019 that carries a full no-trade clause through the end of this season before moving to a 15-team, modified no-trade clause through the end of it.
To this point, Schenn has not been approached about waiving it nor are there any indications that he would even if approached.
