  • Blue Cypress Golf Club in Arlington, Florida, has reopened as a 12-hole course featuring the original nine holes (“Big Blue”) and three new par-3 holes (“Little Blue”).
  • Juniors can play Little Blue for free with a paying adult and Big Blue or the full 12 holes (“The Dozen”) for $10.
  • The course is hosting a free community “Swing Day” on August 23 with games, clinics, music, and food trucks.

The Blue Cypress Golf Club in Arlington is planning more programs, especially for juniors, to take advantage of the three holes that opened recently to make the facility a 12-hole course.

Designed by Michael Beebe of Beebe & Associates, the three new holes are all par-3s and have been dubbed “Little Blue.” The original nine-hole layout is “Big Blue” and the full 12-hole course is called “The Dozen.”

Blue Cypress is owned by the city of Jacksonville and managed by Troon Golf for Indigo Golf Partners.

Golf fees range from $21 to $37 for adults, depending on the number of holes played, and whether the players are walking or riding. There are also twilight rates and discounted rates for first responders, military, city employees and seniors.

But the best news is the access for junior golfers. Youth 17 and below can play Little Blue free with a paying adult, and Big Blue or The Dozen for $10.

First Tee-North Florida is expanding its programming at Blue Cypress and other grow-the-game initiatives can be expected.

The course is holding a Jacksonville Community “Swing Day” on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The community is invited to attend the free event to see the new holes, play games, participate in mini-clinics, listen to music, enjoy food trucks and more.

Tee times can be scheduled at www.golfbluecypress.com.

Blue Cypress originally opened in the 1960s and has operated under various names. It reopened under Indigo Sports management in 2020 after undergoing major renovations.

Mark Taylor gets a pair of aces

Mark Taylor has struck again at Hyde Park.

A few weeks after he made a hole-in-one at the longest par-3 hole at the Hyde Park Golf Club, Taylor has added one at the shortest. He used an 8-iron from 140 yards to ace the sixth hole.

Taylor hit a 3-wood into the jar at the 235-yard fourth hole earlier this summer.
