Bills news: Buffalo picks up fifth-year option on Dalton Kincaid

The Buffalo Bills have faced some difficult roster decisions this offseason, but one of the easiest choices facing president of football operations/general manager Brandon Beane concerned what the team should do with talented but often injured tight end Dalton Kincaid’s fifth-year option.

Earlier this week, at the NFL owners’ meetings in Phoenix, Beane confirmed that the Bills did indeed pick up the fifth-year option on Kincaid, a first-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, and today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by discussing the Kincaid news.

Bills pick up fifth-year option for Dalton Kincaid

With the decision to pick up Kincaid’s option, the talented but oft-injured receiver will count $4.2 million on the salary cap for this year, and a very manageable $8.1 million for the fifth year in 2027.

Last year, when Kincaid was healthy, he was one of the most productive tight ends in the league, averaging a league-high 14.9 yards per target. When Josh Allen looked Kincaid’s way, Allen boasted a 149.2 passer rating. But unfortunately, coming off a 2024 season that saw Kincaid log 57% of the snaps, a nagging knee injury sidelined Kincaid for five games and limited him to only 38% of the offensive snaps.

Kincaid is hoping to prove this year that he can be both a productive receiver and a healthy option who is on the field as often as possible for Allen and the Bills, who are facing a season with sky-high Super Bowl expectations.
