LEBANON – Count Kyle Busch among those who aren’t a believer that NASCAR would add horsepower to the Next Gen Cup cars.

“I’ll believe it when I see it,” Busch said. “I think everything that we’ve done with this car from the old car is bigger tires, bigger brakes, less horsepower. It’s just not conducive to better racing in my opinion.

“A lot of times the Xfinity Series is better and that’s the old car we have.”

Busch is racing on June 1 in the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway.

NASCAR executives are talking about adding horsepower, according to numerous reports. The immediate priority would be for short-track races to improve the quality of the race. Current horsepower is at 670.

Busch is currently 19th in points and is mired in a 70-race winless streak.

“The years when we were running 900 horse was pretty bad ass,” Busch said. “The cars were screaming during qualifying. It was a lot of fun to have that sort of power to put yourself to that limit to see how fast you could go.”
