It is no secret at this point that Guille Fernandez and Toni Fernandez are regarded as two of the finest prospects coming through the ranks at Barcelona’s fabled La Masia youth academy.
The 16-year-old cousin duo featured prominently for the first team during pre-season in the summer and have been a regular part of the senior training sessions and matchday squads in recent weeks, with Hansi Flick placing immense faith in the pair.
Both Guille and Toni made history last month when they broke goalscoring records for Barça Atletic.
Indeed, with their strikes in the subsidiary team’s win over Ourense in September, Toni became the youngest goalscorer in Barça Atletic history and Guille became the third youngest.
Repeating the feats on the international stage
Not stopping at that, Toni and Guille have now gone ahead and made history on the international stage with the Spanish youth national teams.
Earlier today, Toni, playing his first match for the Spanish Under-18 national team, in the first match of the ‘4 Nations’ Tournament against Romania, found the back of the net in a 4-0 win.
In the process, the teenage forward became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Spanish U-18 national team doing so at the age of 16 years 2 months and 26 days, going past Juanlu Sanchez (16 years 03 months 22 days).
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, when Spain Under-19 played Germany in a friendly encounter, Guille came on as a substitute and played around 45 minutes.
In doing so, the teenage midfield prodigy became the third-youngest footballer to ever play for Spain U-19 at the age of 16 years 3 months and 21 days – only behind fellow La Masia gem Lamine Yamal and Samuel Taddesse.
Both Toni and Guille are rated very highly at Barcelona and if they continue to progress at this rate, it won’t be long before fans get to see the Fernandez cousins turning out for the first team.
