With less than two weeks remaining before the transfer window slams shut, Barcelona are staring at a busy period ahead.

The club are already working on the exit of at least three players in the form of Oriol Romeu, Inaki Pena and Hector Fort.

One of them is Frenkie de Jong, one of the club’s most experienced players and a key cog in Hansi Flick’s midfield setup.

According to MARCA, Barcelona are determined to close De Jong’s renewal before the end of the ongoing transfer market.

This update comes shortly after the Dutchman recently hired new representatives, who met Deco on Wednesday at Ciutat Esportiva to accelerate talks.

Club president Joan Laporta had already signalled weeks ago that the renewal was on track, and now the plan is to put pen to paper before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona’s motive to complete the renewal by the end of the month stems from the club’s desire to ease Financial Fair Play restrictions and help register players still pending.

It must be remembered that Barcelona are still yet to register Wojciech Szczesny, Roony Bardghji and Gerard Martin, although Romeu’s exit may take care of the latter.

Although De Jong has once again become a key player for Barcelona, the midfielder is likely to agree to reduced terms in his new deal, which could reflect positively on Barça’s balance sheet.

This, coupled with the potential loan exits of Pena and Fort, could go a long way in helping the club register Szczesny and Bardghji by the end of the month.
