In a major development, journalist Gianluigi Longari (h/t SPORT) reports that FC Barcelona are preparing to take a decisive step in their pursuit of Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni.
The Blaugrana have plans to initiate direct talks between the clubs as early as next week as they step up the chase for the Italian international.

As has been reported by multiple reliable outlets now, Bastoni has already said yes to Barcelona and is excited by the idea of representing the reigning La Liga champions.
Until now, Barcelona’s interest had been limited to monitoring the player and holding discussions with his representatives, without entering formal negotiations with Inter.
That situation is now expected to change, with the club considering official talks to be imminent in order to explore the terms of a potential transfer.
Bastoni’s current situation is seen as a key factor. The defender is facing increased scrutiny in Italy following his red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a decisive World Cup qualification match.

This comes in the aftermath of another controversy linked to an earlier incident against Juventus, where he was accused of exaggerating contact to provoke the dismissal of Pierre Kalulu.
Amid this media pressure, Barcelona believe an opportunity may arise in the transfer market.
Negotiations will be tricky
As is well-established by now, Barcelona view Bastoni as a top priority to strengthen their defence ahead of next season. However, the operation is expected to be difficult.
Inter Milan are not willing to part easily with one of their key defensive players, and any negotiation is likely to begin at a high valuation, estimated at around €70 million.

Barcelona hope to reduce that figure, with some Italian outlets suggesting a potential range between €40 million and €50 million, while there have been some murmurs of a player being included in the deal as well.
At present, however, no formal figures have been agreed, and Inter are expected to take a firm stance in initial discussions.
