Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are in complete agreement when it comes to strengthening the squad.
According to SPORT, the two are in complete harmony that if the club needs to make a major financial effort for a new signing, they both believe it should be for Alexander Isak.
The Swedish striker has been on Barcelona’s radar for years, with the club continuously monitoring his progress from his early days.
Reports on him have always been positive, highlighting his impressive technical ability and adaptability in different attacking roles.
Deco’s main priority is to consolidate the current squad, ensuring it remains competitive across all fronts. However, when it comes to bolstering the attack, there is a unanimous belief that Isak would be the perfect addition.
His versatility makes him an attractive option—while he naturally plays as a centre-forward, he is also highly effective when deployed on the wings.
Meeting with Isak’s camp and transfer obstacles
Late last year, Barcelona had a formal meeting with Isak’s representatives, attended by Deco and Bojan Krkic. While no significant progress was made at the time, the discussions ended on a positive note.
The club made its interest in signing the striker very clear, and on the other side, Isak’s camp expressed his willingness to be part of the Barcelona project. Both parties were in full agreement about a potential move.
Despite mutual interest, negotiations have not progressed further due to Barcelona’s financial constraints. Deco is going through the club’s economic challenges carefully, making sure any transfer decision aligns with their budget.
However, the sporting director remains committed to making the deal happen under the right conditions.
Isak is under contract with Newcastle until 2028, but reports suggest he would be open to leaving if it means joining a project as ambitious as Barcelona’s under Flick.
Newcastle, on the other hand, would not block his departure as long as they receive an offer that matches his value.
