Backstreet Boys Challenge NSYNC to Golf Showdown with ‘The Match’ Producer Bryan Zuriff on Board originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Backstreet’s back on the stage and could be headed for the back nine.

The Backstreet Boys may be in the midst of headlining their hit Las Vegas residency, but they’re still not ready to put a decades-old rivalry to rest: Backstreet Boys versus NSYNC. According to members Brian Littrell and Nick Carter, the best way to settle it isn’t on the dance floor, but on the green.

During a recent golf outing at Pebble Beach, Littrell and Carter called for a five-on-five golf showdown between members of the two iconic musical quintets. Littrell wasted no time dubbing the match a “Boy Band Mania Golf Tournament” with Carter issuing the official invitation, “We’re challenging *NSYNC right now to a five-on-five!”

The idea made its way to Bryan Zuriff, producer of “The Match,” the exhibition golf series known for settling some of the largest rivalries both on and off the course.

“The Match” first premiered in 2018 with the iconic matchup of Tiger Woods versus Phil Mickelson. It was a first of its kind pay-per-view event showcasing exhibition golf matches outside of regular PGA Tour play. The event has since dropped its pay-per-view model and has expanded to feature players from other sports and even two-on-two matches.

To date, “The Match” has had a total of nine matches, including one aimed to settle the infamous 2021 feud between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

“The Match” has also included team matches that have no professional golfers at all, such as the 2022 match between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers versus Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, and the 2023 match between Kansas City Chiefs superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce versus Golden State Warriors duo, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

While NSYNC hasn’t yet responded to the invitation, the five-on-five golf match would be the largest team match in “The Match” history and would surely draw massive intrigue from audiences across the sports and music worlds.

Backstreet may be back, but chances are that when asked who they think will win in a golf showdown, NSYNC members will say, “it’s gonna be me.”
