Of all the storylines coming out of NASCAR’s Cup Series race at Talladega, Joey Logano’s expletive-filled radio rant has been one of the most talked about.

On the final lap of the second stage, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion was trying to catch up and pass leader Bubba Wallace to win the stage. The No. 2 pilot was behind Logano but didn’t give him the push needed to pass the 23XI Racing driver.

“Way to go Austin,” an angry Logano said over the team radio. “Way to go you dumb [expletive]. Way to [expletive] go. What a stupid [expletive]. God. He just gave it to him. Gave a Toyota a stage win. Nice job. Way to go. What a dumbass.”

In a post-race conversation with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, the No. 22 car driver said he would “absolutely” be having a discussion with his teammate this week, declining to elaborate any more on the situation.

Austin Cindric, however, gave fans a glimpse of how that conversation may go and explained his thinking heading into the end of Stage 2.

In an appearance on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, the Talladega race winner was asked about Logano’s radio tirade, with Harvick speculating that Cindric had so much momentum that he was scared to wreck his teammate if he pushed any harder.

“Y’all saw it correctly. Delivering a pretty big push going into the tri-oval is a tough moment,” Cindric explained.

The Team Penske driver acknowledged that they may have left a stage win on the table and understands his teammate’s frustration since they use the stage ends as rehearsal for the checkered flag.

Cindric explained where the team goes from here, saying, “We’ll have meetings about where to be better and where to be honest with ourselves. My duty is to go into those meetings and give my own honest feedback on what I can do better.

“In the heat of the moment, the emotions, whatever you want to call it, I think those are things you like to keep in the family as much as you can and sometimes that bleeds out, but all in all, I think we do a better job than most at organizing ourselves and maximizing opportunities.”
