Undefeated Australian heavyweight Teremoana Teremoana has kept his destructive run going with a dominant first-round knockout victory over Aleem Whitfield in New York City’ Madison Square Garden Theater.
The previously unbeaten Whitfield was no match for the towering Queenslander, who closed the show with a savage combination in the final minute of the opening round.
A lead uppercut followed by two left hooks and another chopping right hand was enough to see New York’s Whitfield go down for the first time in 10 professional fights.

The win, his fifth first-round stoppage victory on the trot, moves Teremoana to 8-0.
“Keep an eye out because there’s new blood on the scene,” Teremoana said following the win.
“I’m here to take over the heavyweight division. Obviously, I’ve got to go one step at a time up the ladder, but I want to do it like ‘Fight Night’, the game back in the day, beat everyone there.”
Teremoana and Whitfield were only paired up at late notice, with the Aussie initially due to fight on the Gold Coast last week before his opponent pulled out.
Matchroom Boxing boss and Teremoana’s co-promoter Eddie Hearn sung the 27-year-old’s praises following the performance.
“He took an opponent, 9-0, didn’t know a lot about him, with good pedigree, destroyed him,” Hearn said.
“This guy’s a future world heavyweight champion.
“As you see, full of energy, full of personality, exactly what the sport needs.
“He has speed, he has IQ and he has terrific punching power as well.”
Hearn added that he intends to get Teremoana out again in Australia in August, before keeping him busy overseas.
“End the year, 10-0, 11-0, and then we step into championship contention,” Hearn added.
The fight appeared on the undercard to the IBF super lightweight title bout between champion Richardson Hitchins and Teremoana’s countryman, former unified lightweight titleholder George Kambosos.
