Augusta National is probably the most exclusive golf course in the country – and maybe the world.
The host of The Masters has a lot of rules. Many of them are known, some are not. Fans are not called fans; instead, they are called patrons. No cellphones are allowed out on the course. Food prices have remained extremely low.
But Augusta National is also extremely strict in other areas. One professional golfer revealed that Augusta National was not very happy with his rental car choice for the week at The Masters.
Laurie Canter, who turned pro in 2011 but played The Masters for the first time this year, opened up about his experience at Augusta National during an appearance on the "Life on Tour" podcast.
The 35-year-old golfer said that Augusta National did not appreciate the rental car choice he made for the week.
"There’s green jackets everywhere," Canter said. "First day, we turned up in our rental car, and we got told, ‘You are given a Mercedes this week, and we would appreciate if that car didn’t return to the property’."
Hey, if you're given a Mercedes to drive for the week, you might as well use it. But it would be interesting to hear what kind of rental car he had picked out in the first place. Clearly, Augusta National didn't want it on the property for the week.
Later in the week, Canter admitted that he and his caddie got in some trouble for using a machine on the putting green.
"Normally on the putting green we get our machine out, roll our ball. My caddie got that out and immediately someone was on him saying, ‘What are you doing? You can’t do that,'" Canter said.
Augusta National is obviously strict, but that's in part why people love it.
