Atletico Madrid are expected to be in the market for at least two more signings once Johnny Cardoso’s arrival is confirmed. A leading centre-back is wanted, as well as a replacement for the recently-departed Angel Correa. Funds may need to be raised in order to be able to afford both, and they could come via the sale of Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher joined Atleti last summer from Chelsea, but his first season at the RiyadhAir Metropolitano hasn’t been easy. He’s struggled to nail down a regular starting spot, and often, he has been used outside of his regular central midfield position.

Despite this, Diego Simeone wants to keep Gallagher, but with interest in his services having grown in recent months, Atleti are prepared to give the green light to him leaving – provided that their asking price is met.
