Arsenal are pushing to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid before the end of the transfer window.
Alvarez has made it clear his ultimate ambition is to join Barcelona, but Atletico have strongly resisted the idea of selling him to a direct rival.

In a boost for the Gunners, the Argentine’s view on a move to the Emirates Stadium has softened, per the Independent.
He still prefers to stay in Spain for both lifestyle and family reasons as well as the stature of a club like Barcelona.
But with the transfer window closing on September 1 and a move to the Blaugrana looking increasingly difficult, the forward is not completely ruling out the possibility of joining Arsenal.
Alvarez has been made aware that manager Mikel Arteta would play in his best position and build an attack around him.
Atletico firmly maintained they wouldn’t entertain offers for the 26-year-old.

But their stance has recently softened, as they have hinted an offer around €150 million could persuade them to sell their prized asset.
Arsenal have made significant investments to bolster their squad this summer. They signed Christos Tzolis last month before confirming deals for Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa.
The North Londoners still look to make a marquee forward addition before the end of the window.
They failed in their pursuit of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, but they hope to wrap up a move for Alvarez.
