JORDAN – For the final time in the spring 2025 season, the Worthington Trojans took to the golf course in sections Tuesday and Wednesday at Ridges at Sand Creek.
In the two-day tournament across two rounds, neither the WHS boys or girls teams had an athlete make it past Tuesday’s first round. The Trojan boys finished with a team score of 389 and the girls shot 411.
Chanhassen easily took first place in the boys meet, shooting a combined one-under 575 to finish ahead of runner-up Orono by 13 strokes.
Individually, Orono’s Dylan Kringen was the section champion after shooting 10-under overall in the two rounds. He shot a seven-under 65 in round one and a three-under 69 in round two to clinch the title. Four players shot under par in the tournament.
Spenser Nickel was the low scorer for Worthington with 92 in the first round. Gerret Larson shot 93, Ryan Dorcey, Ayden Stugelmeyer and Tyson Petersen each shot 102 and Cameron Krommendyk shot 109.
In the girls meet, Minnetonka won the section title with a combined score of 15-over 591. That was a whopping 62 strokes ahead of second-place Orono.
Orono’s Ava Hanneman was the section champion after shooting a five-under 139 through her two rounds. She was also the only player to finish under par as she shot 68 in round one and 71 in round two.
Claire Meyer and Claire Mahlberg tied for the lowest score for WHS in the opening round with 101 and Ava Schutz was not far behind at 102. Callie Rosenberg shot 107, Peyton Nickel 121 and Ellie Drost 125.
State golf tournaments across all classes will be June 10-11 with the Class AAA meet taking place at the Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.
BUFFALO LAKE – Day two of the Section 3A tournament at Oakdale Golf Club finished up Wednesday morning.
Golfers from Jackson County Central, Luverne and Windom Area competed in the two-round, 18-hole tourney with some making it past the first round.
In the boys meet, four golfers from those schools played Wednesday. After shooting a three-over 75 in the first round on May 22, Luverne’s Will Bergman shot nine-over in the second round to place 14th overall with a total score of 156.
Mallachi Domagala tied for 20th place with a two-round score of 161. He shot a nine-over 81 in the first round to make it to day two and then shot eight-over in round two. Levi Gonnerman placed 31st for Luverne with a score of 168. From Jackson County Central, Tavin Miller also tied for 20th place overall. He shot 83 in the first round and then 78 in the second.
Landon Pillatzki and Alex Cory of Windom Area narrowly missed out on making it to day two with each shooting 12-over 84 in the first round. Teammate Henry Visker shot 87, Jack Elness 88, Carter Rossow 89 and Owen Cowan 109.
For JCC in round one, Kyler Thier shot 88, Jessy Gentry 93, Dylan Hilpipre 99, Gavin Pohlman 100 and Spencer Pigman 111.
Luverne in the opening round also saw Zach Overgaard shoot a 96, Kale Ver Steef 100 and Charlie Mostad 101.
New London-Spicer claimed the Section 3AA title with a combined score of 596, 21 strokes ahead of second-place New Ulm.
In the girls meet, six golfers made it to day two, two from JCC, two from Luverne and two from Windom Area.
Making it through two rounds for JCC were Rachel Mohr and Payton Coquyt. Mohr was consistent, shooting 102 in the first round and 101 in the second to place in a tie for 27th overall. Coquyt also put up similar scores in the two rounds with a 103 in round one and 105 in round two in a tie for 37th overall.
Other round-one competitors for JCC were Ramsey Johnson (106), Lily Brinkman (109) Kendal Krumwiede (120) and Taylor Schultz (145).
Ingrid Mostad and Macie Edstrom were the two Luverne golfers to play on Wednesday and they each tied for 30th with scores of 204. The top two area golfers each came from Windom as Ada Lund placed 15th with a score of 189 and Ali Lund got 19th with 196.
Luverne had Ella Apel (108), Kylie Vander Lugt and Ellie Van Batavia (117), and Paula Martinez Penuelas (148) not make it past round one. Olivia Joyce with a 131 didn’t make it past round one for Windom.
Minnewaska Area claimed the section title with a combined score of 638, well ahead of runner-up New London-Spicer’s score of 739.
The Class AA state meet will be held at Ridges at Sand Creek.
