Santiago Moreno, currently with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer in the United States, could play for a major South American team.

Fluminense has made a formal offer for the Colombian winger, and América de Cali is keeping a close eye on the negotiations, since the scarlet club—where Moreno made his professional debut—retains a percentage of his rights.

According to MLS specialist journalist Tom Bogert, the first offer made by the Brazilian club was $4 million for the rights to 25-year-old Moreno. However, Portland considered the offer “well below his value.”

Nevertheless, negotiations are ongoing, and many reports from Brazil suggest that the transfer could be finalized in the coming hours, possibly with an increase that would bring the final amount to around five million dollars, which would mean América would receive about one million.

According to the American journalist, the Timbers have already rejected two offers close to five million from other MLS teams, but in those cases, they were direct competitors.

Fluminense, meanwhile, is looking for a replacement for another Colombian, Jhon Arias, who shone at the Club World Cup and quickly moved to Wolverhampton in the Premier League.
