For the eighth consecutive tournament, a first-time Wimbledon singles champion will be crowned when Amanda Anisimova faces Iga Swiatek in Saturday’s final.
Since Serena Williams claimed her seventh singles title at SW19 in 2016, a maiden winner has emerged each year, with Anisimova or Swiatek poised to succeed surprise 2024 victor Barbora Krejcikova.
Anisimova has enjoyed an incredible renaissance over the past 12 months, having been ranked 189th in the world last year following a lengthy injury lay-off.

A first WTA 1000 title in Doha this February saw the 23-year-old American break into the world top 20, and she showed pedigree on grass by reaching the final of Queen’s Club last month, losing to Tatjana Maria.
Swiatek was also beaten in a pre-Wimbledon grass court final when she fell short against Jessica Pegula at Bad Homburg. The former world No. 1 is chasing a sixth Grand Slam title and a first at Wimbledon and was in scintillating form as she demolished Belinda Bencic 6-2 6-0 in the semifinals.

Amanda Anisimova vs. Iga Swiatek live updates, results, highlights from 2025 Wimbledon final
That was astonishing to watch. The crowd seemed not to know quite how to react. Anisimova, who left the court after the final point, has just returned for the trophy ceremony. She gets a huge round of applause as she does so.
Amanda Anisimova 0-6 0-6 Iga Swiatek* — SWIATEK WINS
At 15-15, Anisimova comes to the net to try something different, but the volley is wayward. Swiatek clips the tee for another ace, and it’s double championship point. She has an open court to aim at, but the forehand flies long — maybe she was just a little too eager that time. Anisimova battles hard against Swiatek’s relentless accuracy, but she can do nothing about the backhand winner down the line. Swiatek wins the Wimbledon final without even dropping a game!

Amanda Anisimova* 0-6 0-5 Iga Swiatek
Anisimova looked like she was wiping away tears during the changeover. “I never wouldn’t believed in my wildest dreams that this could happen,” says John McEnroe on the BBC.Â
Amanda Anisimova* 0-6 0-5 Iga Swiatek — BREAK
Anisimova looks like she’s running out of ideas of how even to win a game. She goes toe to toe with Swiatek in two baseline exchanges but comes off worse in both. Swiatek can’t quite dig out a forehand that dies on the baseline, but she forces another error from Anisimova, who has struggled all day with the depth on her forehand. Swiatek brings her to the net and passes superbly. She’s a game away from an historic final win.
Amanda Anisimova 0-6 0-4 Iga Swiatek*
Terrific from Swiatek to cover at the net when Anisimova looked to be heading for a 30-0 lead against the Pole’s serve. Then comes a mishit forehand, and we’re at 30-30 — could this be Anisimova’s chance? Swiatek has advantage but serves a double fault and, just maybe, displays the first sign of nerves… until she follows up with an ace down the tee. The next forehand is unreturned, and it’s 4-0 in this set.
Amanda Anisimova* 0-6 0-3 Iga Swiatek — BREAK
That was another tight forehand from Anisimova, and she follows up with a drive volley when she was horribly off-balance. The crowd tries to rouse her as she faces the prospect of another break, and the American responds with a glorious forehand winner down the line. Then comes another double fault, and suddenly you could hear a pin drop on Centre Court, but she saves break point with a gutsy forehand that clips the line. Swiatek overcooks a return after forcing another, but Anisimova throws in another double fault, and she finds the bottom of the net off the backhand again. We could be in double-bagel territory, which hasn’t happened in a slam final since 1988.
Amanda Anisimova* 0-6 0-2 Iga Swiatek
Swiatek hammers down another big serve and makes no mistake off the short return. She makes her first double fault at 30-15, and Anisimova finally finds another forehand winner, so perhaps there’s a chance here. The American does well to claw back another awkward sliced serve, but she can’t keep the rally going after scampering across the court, and a superbly controlled volley gives Swiatek the game.
Amanda Anisimova* 0-6 0-1 Iga Swiatek — BREAK
We start set two with a powerful backhand exchange, and Swiatek again comes out on top. Anisimova finally lands a first serve, but the return off the forehand side has her scrambling to her right, and she can’t keep the ball in play. 0-30. Swiatek sets up a chance for three more break points, but she surprisingly slaps a forehand into the net. Anisimova then varies her play with a lovely sliced backhand winner, which rouses the crowd — they want to see a contest here. She’s wild with her next forehand, though, and screeches in frustration. Break point… and she does it again! The forehand lands in the tramlines, and Swiatek breaks for a fourth time.
The stats don’t look great for that first set. Anisimova landed only 33% of her first serves and hit 14 unforced errors to Swiatek’s two. Right now, she needs to forget the past half-hour even happened and try to recapture the performances that got her to this stage.

Amanda Anisimova 0-6 Iga Swiatek* — SWIATEK WINS FIRST SET
Swiatek starts with a devilishly angled serve, then goes for full power. She’s mixing her approach up brilliantly, and Anisimova hasn’t got a handle on it. Swiatek somehow reacts to send back a volley hit right at her, and she’s rewarded with three set points. She only needs one.
Amanda Anisimova* 0-5 Iga Swiatek — BREAK
This is awesome from Swiatek, and a nightmare for Anisimova. The former is simply too powerful and too accurate in these exchanges, hitting the ball freely and moving her opponent around. Anisimova looks like the occasion might be getting to her. She needs to regroup, and quickly.
Amanda Anisimova 0-4 Iga Swiatek*
Anisimova unsettles Swiatek on the baseline for the first time to move 30-15 up against serve, but Swiatek catches the tramline on the next point and the American can’t get the ball back following the awkward bounce. That seemed to be on her mind as she sent the next two simple shots into the net.
Amanda Anisimova* 0-3 Iga Swiatek — BREAK
A double fault makes it 15-15, but Anisimova responds in style with an impressive one-touch punch. However, 40-15 quickly becomes deuce thanks to Swiatek’s immaculate early groundstrokes, and she saves game point with her latest thumping backhand return. The Pole wins another baseline exchange for break point, and Anisimova throws in a double fault again. She looks really tight out there, while Swiatek seems laser-focused.
Amanda Anisimova 0-2 Iga Swiatek*
Anisimova has a chance to take control of a rally at 30-0, but she puts far too much into a backhand. Swiatek nets on the next point, but Anisimova’s return is then long. Swiatek looks locked in here.
Amanda Anisimova* 0-1 Iga Swiatek — BREAK
Swiatek breaks! Her returns were simply too good as Anisimova served a little nervously. She lands a thumping forehand winner at 0-40, but another second serve is sent back with earnest and she loops a forehand wide.
