Alex Bowman will not be racing in the NASCAR Cup Series much longer. On Thursday, Hendrick Motorsports announced that Bowman will retire from full-time racing after the 2027 NASCAR season. The Hendrick Motorsports driver signed a one-year contract, giving himself and his fans a farewell campaign.
Despite Bowman’s injuries and battle with vertigo, this still comes as a surprise for a 33-year-old driver. So, what did Bowman have to say about his decision to retire from NASCAR?

“I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what’s next, and this feels like the right decision at the right time,” Bowman said in a press release. “The sport asks a lot of you, and I’ve learned it’s important to listen to your body and make the right choices for yourself. To say I’m incredibly grateful to Mr. Hendrick, our partners at Ally and Chevrolet, and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports would be an understatement. They believed in me and gave me the biggest opportunity of my life. My focus now is on making the most of my time on the race track and competing for wins. We still have a lot to accomplish, and I want to close my career on a high note for our team and our fans. To have the chance to do that with this organization and these people is really special.”
Bowman hasn’t won since the 2024 NASCAR season at the Chicago Street Course, but he hopes to earn at least one more victory. The driver of the No. 48 car has 51 races left in his full-time NASCAR career. It may come as a surprise, but it’s great to see Bowman go out on his own terms.
