46-year-old Adam Scott is in contention at the BMW PGA Championship.
The Australian is two shots off the lead going into the weekend after shooting a 67 in both of his opening two rounds. And judging by his comments afterward, it’s clear to see why he’s so motivated to win this week.

Scott said, “This event — let’s put the majors aside for a second — but this certainly is kind of top three on my list outside of major championships.
“I think of the Players Championship, probably the Aussie Open, and then this one is right there. It’s an incredible event. The atmosphere is amazing, and the course is just a great challenge, as well.”
These are terrific comments for the event, but they also show what must happen in golf moving forward.

This year’s tournament at Wentworth has been an incredible showcase of some of the best talent on the planet, featuring Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and many more. It’s no wonder that Scott rates this event so highly.

The fact that Scott has this event alongside The Players, the PGA Tour’s flagship event, and his home open in Australia shows just how much demand there is for more international golf.
The PGA Tour pushed to introduce The Players as a major championship, promoting this year’s tournament with the tagline, “March is going to be major”. This sparked widespread debate over whether the championship should indeed be golf’s fifth major.
However, three of the four major championships in golf are played in the United States, which doesn’t reflect how global the game has become. As Scott highlights, some of the world’s best events are played outside the US, and players love to compete in them.
We currently have The Open Championship in the UK, but if we add another major championship to the schedule, we must consider an international event to meet the demands of the global fanbase.
